Visual Identity and Symbology of the Congress

The design of the visual identity for the 2026 World Congress of Constitutional Law articulates Colombia’s ecosystemic richness with the dogmatic and institutional foundations of the event.

The graphic concept abandons traditional legal iconography to propose an identity anchored in biodiversity, multilateralism, and institutional solidity.

The Central Symbol and Geometric Composition 
The core element is the geometric abstraction of a hummingbird. Beyond honoring Colombia’s position as the country with the greatest bird diversity on the planet—hosting 20% of the world’s avifauna and 177 of the 264 hummingbird species recorded on the continent—the graphic construction of the bird using scalene triangles of various sizes and proportions visually forms the silhouette of the map of Latin America. This design decision represents the region’s plurality: distinct pieces, perspectives, and legal traditions that articulate to form a unified, dynamic, and constantly moving body.

Spatial Interaction and Global Symbology 
In the composition, the hummingbird’s beak intentionally intersects the word “WORLD,” operating as a visual metaphor for Latin America’s active participation in the global constitutional discussion. The region is not a mere spectator; rather, it both draws sustenance from and directly contributes to the international legal debate. The entire composition is backed by a cyan circular arc that symbolizes the global, continuous, and integrative nature of the Congress, framing the dynamism of the Global South within a universal academic forum.

Chromatic Palette and Typography 
The design employs sans-serif typefaces with clean, sober, and modern lines. This choice projects the robustness, clarity, and solidity demanded by democratic institutions and the Rule of Law. This typographic rigidity is balanced by a palette of warm, vivid, and tropical colors (magentas, cyans, yellows, and greens). This chromatic selection breaks away from the visual sobriety typically associated with orthodox legal events to communicate, instead, the multiculturalism, the demographic vitality of the region, and the convergence of diverse Latin American voices in contemporary constitutional debate.

Institutional and Environmental Coherence 
The adoption of the hummingbird functions as a direct extension of the identity of Universidad Externado de Colombia as the host institution. The design reflects the alignment of university policies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the material reality of its campus, which, due to its location on the eastern ridge of Bogotá, operates as a preserved habitat for this species. In this way, the graphic identity materializes the premise that constitutional rigor must coexist with environmental responsibility and preservation.
