Ten years have passed since the signing of the Final Peace Agreement between the Colombian Government and the now-defunct FARC-EP guerrilla. Over this decade, both the Agreement and its implementation have contributed to strengthening—as well as testing—the foundations of Colombia’s democratic institutional system. In its various expressions, the Agreement continues to shape national debate and compels us to rethink our own institutions. From understanding the causes of the systematic violence the country has experienced—both by non-state and state actors—to expanding political participation for historically marginalized groups and engaging in an ongoing debate over land distribution, the Final Agreement remains a central reference point.
